Is your training done on location?

Yes we have 20 acres of outdoor space, 2 training buildings and a barn with horses and goats as well.

Do you offer housing during my training/certification?

We will secure AirBnb for those needing accommodations.

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid?

We will start with introductory prices and are developing the Sharon Powers scholarship program.

Can I learn to train therapy or service dogs at your academy?

Yes we will be covering the foundational work needed to produce both therapy and service dogs. You will also learn the difference between the two.

What type of certification will I have when I have completed your course?

You will not only receive a Stoney Run Canine Camp Academy certificate upon completion of the course, but you will also be given the reference to sit for the CCPDT Exam and will be able to earn the KA status after passing their test.

Will I be nationally certified once I complete your course?

Yes, upon completion of both the academy and passing the CCPDT Exam.

Is Stoney Run Canine Camp Academy licensed?

While there is no governing body to administer licensure to any academy, all of our trainers/teachers have personal certifications, have passed the CCPDT exam and are Knowledge Assessed (KA)

Besides learning about training the dogs, In the course will I learn how to get started training professionally?

The SRCC Academy will expose you to 21 weeks of experience with Pet People and cover the foundation of starting your business and best steps to take once you have successfully completed the 21 weeks.

Do I need to have a college degree to be a dog trainer? Either before or after completing your course?

No

What experience do I need to have before attending Stoney Run Academy?

Prior dog handling experience is a plus but not required.

Do you provide resources for finding career opportunities after I graduate from Stoney Run Canine Camp Academy?

The SRCC Academy will expose you to all industry associations, explaining their benefits and will offer internships and jobs to those wanting to stay local to our facility.

What makes Stoney Run Canine Camp Academy better than other training programs?

The SRCC Academy will expose you to the pet people of the world and the skills needed to run classes for them. The pet population is more abundant than performance and specialized groups such as Police Dogs and the like.

How much time will I need to dedicate to your program courses each day? Will I be able to work while taking the course?

While at the SRCC Academy you will be immersed in everything dog training. You will work the dogs in our Day School Program, attend classes yourself and then on evenings and weekends follow the instructors as they run their classes. We can potentially work around a part time job but there will be specific times you will be required to be onsite.

Do I need to bring a dog with me for the program?

You do not need to bring a dog but you will be able to bring one. You will be exposed to many breeds and temperaments of dogs.

Can I bring my pets with me while I attend Stoney Run Canine Camp?

We can house 1 dog per paid spot.

Do I need to bring any dog training supplies or materials with me?

You will be required to have a treat pouch, clicker, long line and books from the required reading lists.

Is there a dress code for the time I am in class at Stoney Run Canine Camp Academy?

Secure and supportive shoes, appropriate shorts or pants/jeans, tshirt or sweatshirt. You will be exposed to all weather conditions of NW Indiana, so please be prepared for any and all weather based on season.

Are any chores or a work-detail program required at Stoney Run?

Everyone at the SRCC Academy will be exposed to kennel shifts, grooming/bathing shifts and can be exposed to the barn and care of the animals we have at any given time.

Why is the title “Master Trainer” not used at Stoney Run Canine Camp?

It is widely accepted that 10,000 hours of training is the benchmark for someone to be called an “Expert or Master” of a subject. At the SRCC Academy we will not employ marketing tactics to secure our students. After 21 weeks you will leave our academy with a strong, working, foundational knowledge and a general idea of which categories of the performance world you have a propensity to enjoy and excel in. SRCC Academy is the first step to possessing the skills and knowledge that others do not and you will be able to use those skills and abilities to achieve success in the dog training field. There are many associations to become a part of, many seminars and continuing education classes that you will need to take over the years. Despite having 10-35+ years experience training dogs and people, the trainers at SRCC are still learning new things.
